The two primary causes are attempting to install on a Mac that Catalina doesn’t support, or trying to install Catalina on a Mac with limited storage space. It may be that the installation won’t start, it seems to freeze during the installation, or it never seems to complete. This is the most basic of Catalina installation errors it simply won’t install. #Unable to run diskwarrior 5 mac os
I think I might need to upgrade a fan in the thing, or something.Installing a new version of the Mac OS is generally a fairly pain-free process this trend continues with macOS Catalina. (I've become an authority on that subject after flaming through about 3 gone-bad sticks on said-same quicksilver over the past two years. Or maybe just drop the DVD image down to an external FW drive, boot off the DVD, and then install off the FW drive. Regardless, I will see if I can make a backup of the DVD, and then try installing off of that. The installer gets through the whole "checking contents of DVD" part just fine. Still open for more suggestions.Įither you have bad RAM or HD, or there is a scratch/some other mark on your install disc that is causing data to become corrupt.Įxcept that I just installed Tiger the day before off the same DVD on my quicksilver tower, because 10.4.8 borked it, too. I have heard about possibly removing my second RAM DIMM to get Tiger running, Because it is Micron and not "Apple Original". I gave up trying to use Ubuntu it was a little glitchy on PPC. I decided to run Panther and dual boot Kubuntu. (BTW - the bad PowerBook is a 1GHz 15" AlBook, combo drive model, 1 GB RAM.) Is my hard drive screwed? Crap.Īny ideas? I've got a couple other Macs I can use to log into it via terminal, but I'm a terminal retard, so if there's a way to poke around in there from another machine, please be explicit if you're telling me what to do! Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer here.

Although it doesn't quite explain the 10.4.8 update problems. I'm guessing that the HD is fine, and that all along, the combo drive is what's been screwing things up.
#Unable to run diskwarrior 5 drivers
I'm wondering if 10.4.8 update messed up the Combo Drive drivers (it doesn't have a super drive) so that it's not working. Apple's own Disk Utility says the HD is fine. I cannot select a different startup disk, as it won't let me. I'd like to run DiskWarrior to see if I can troubleshoot the HD, but I cannot eject the DVD. Now, I've got a PowerBook with a Tiger Install DVD in its drive, and no other bootable HD-based volume. I even tried installing a system to an external FireWire drive. (After manually trying to install QT.) The Archive-and-install installation of Tiger failed - I got a message like "error - please try installing again." In the log, it said that it was a "bomFatalError". After 10.4.8 hosed my PowerBook, kernel panicking always during the QuickTime part of the install, I tried reinstalling Tiger.
